what we do
Green New Deal Devon imagines a vision for the future that we all want to live in - one that we design together.
The Green New Deal gives us the structure to build that vision – a bold, ambitious plan to decarbonise our economy and tackle economic and social inequalities. There are campaigns across the country, and the world, fighting for a Green New Deal. Green New Deal Devon is shaping that vision locally – looking at the challenges that face the different communities in Devon and what they might want for a better future.
It can be hard to imagine that bold vision for the future – it’s easier to think about the things in front of our noses, like potholes and bin collections. GND Devon helps grow people’s imaginations and look towards that big, bold vision that could genuinely transform our lives in a zero carbon future.
what we do
At GND Devon, we give people the time, space and tools to imagine a better future, using the Green New Deal principles as the bedrock.
We know there are lots of reason why people struggle to imagine a better future (see our imagination pages) - not least because the vision they are being sold of a green future is just their current lives, but with a green tinge. For most, that's not particularly inspiring.
Who is providing an exciting, hopeful vision of the future? Who is helping people play a part in shaping that future?
At GND Devon we give people the opportunity to imagine a different future, taking them out of their day-to-day lives and helping them think beyond the confines of their current reality.
This might be through organised workshops with ordinary people or it might be at shared spaces like a climate hub or a library. It will also be with experts in particular fields - helping them think what might be possible in agriculture, the economy, housing - beyond the bounds that their current job, political situation, or finances might present.
Over time, we will build those ideas into a picture of what a green future, and a Green New Deal will look like in Devon.
