The Green New Deal has justice at its heart, whether that be social, racial or climate justice
Many of the solutions to the climate crisis are imposed by a minority through paternalistic structures, onto those who have little agency in their implementation. Green New Deal Devon aims to work with as many communities as possible to make sure everyone is given that agency to imagine their vision for the future.

Marginalised communities are most affected by the impacts of climate change and the solutions to it. We need to expand our tables, provide safe, open spaces for others to come in and force us to look at tackling the climate crisis in different ways.
Imagining our future has usually been the preserve of those who hold power – forcing us to “live inside someone else’s imagination”. We want to give everyone the tools they need to be a part of imagining their own future – moving outside of someone else’s imagination.
Green New Deal Devon aims to be as inclusive as possible, focussing on developing justice-led solutions and our work is led and shaped by as many different voices as possible.

-
We commit to finding a hopeful vision for the future, not restricting our imaginations

-
We explore the bold visions that seek to overturn destructive structures embedded in our society

-
We recognise and hold space for the historic and ongoing structural practices which have brought us to this point – including racism, misogyny, colonialism, and social inequalities among others

-
We recognise that without fully accepting and comprehending the above, and any role we - as individuals, as communities, as countries - have played in that, we won’t make the progress we need

-
We understand that access to these kinds of spaces and this kind of work is often closed or narrowed to those from minority communities, people of colour, disabled people, women, neurodiverse people, people from LGBTQ+ communities, working class communities, and Traveller communities, among others. We understand that this lack of diversity devalues the work we do and we seek to address it as a core principle

-
We are political, but not party political. We are not and will not seek to be affiliated with a political party, but certainly hold strong political, progressive views

-
We are allies and stand in solidarity with movements fighting for justice

-
We have humility – we don’t know everything, we can’t know everything and we seek to learn from others as much as possible
